Drive growth by managing and expanding relationships with strategic & key clients (gentailers, utilities, IPPs, developers, contractors and/or battery suppliers), originating and closing new business opportunities in battery energy storage systems (BESS) and related renewable energy infrastructure. This role is pivotal for the market entry of Altenso in Australia and must ensure that technical, commercial and market dynamics are well understood, solutions are tailored, risks are mitigated, and contracts are closed while ensuring high chances of profitably. This role will work closely with multiple teams and stakeholders and will require travel flexibility.
Your Contribution to the Bigger Picture:
- Key Account Management: Develop, maintain and grow relationships with strategic & key accounts (developers, utilities, gentailers, IPPs, contractors and/or battery suppliers), ensuring high level of client satisfaction and repeat business
- Customer orientation: Understand customers’ technical, operational, commercial & financial needs; propose solutions that align with their objectives and industry expectations
- Business Development: Identify, qualify, and lead new business opportunities: originate leads, pursue tenders, put together proposals and bid responses, negotiate contracts & commercial terms, contract execution and handover to delivery team
- Risk Management: Manage commercial and contractual risk: ensure proposals and contracts are sound in terms of payment structure, warranties, liability, delivery schedules, performance guarantees
- Internal Stakeholder Management: Work with internal commercial & legal, engineering, grid, delivery, service and procurement teams to develop proposals, technical offers, cost estimates, risk assessments, and ensure solutions are feasible and competitive
- Trend Management: Monitor market trends, regulatory & policy developments, competitive landscape, and customer feedback; feed insights into solution roadmap, pricing strategy, and value proposition
- Strategy: Assist in developing strategic accounts’ and business growth’s plans: revenue targets, margin targets, growth strategies for key accounts.
- Reporting: Track and report on sales pipeline, forecast revenue, margin, wins & losses; maintain CRM / sales systems and dashboards.
- Networking: Represent the company in external forums: industry conferences, customer workshops, networking, and promote the company
- Post‑contract handover: coordinate with Project Delivery team, ensure client expectations are set and met; manage issues arising during handover
Your Skills

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical / Power Systems preferred) or Business; MBA or similar is a plus
- Experience: 5–7+ years of experience in sales, business development, or key account management within the renewable energy sector (BESS, inverters, hybrid systems, or similar). Proven experience with utility-scale and/or C&I energy storage projects and related business models (EPC, OEM, integrator)
- Sales and commercial skills: Strong track record of originating, negotiating, and closing complex, high-value deals with long sales cycles. Ability to manage and prioritise multiple opportunities and accounts in parallel
- Solid financial and commercial acumen: including business case development, pricing, margin, and risk analysis, and good reporting discipline
- Strategic mindset with the ability to assess markets, understand regulatory and policy trends, navigate changes, and identify new growth opportunities
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and long-term relationships as well as influence senior decision-makers (internal and external)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear commercial narratives
- Sound technical understanding of BESS solutions, integration, grid connection process, market dynamics, different revenue streams and structures, and key performance parameters
- Personal Attributes: Collaborative team player, able to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, operations, finance, and legal; proactive, resilient, and self-driven, with high integrity, persistence and consistency in high-stakes environments
