Director Large Scale Solutions

1. Purpose / Overall Goal 

 The Director has responsibility for all SMA’s segment related activities in the market, this includes a direct responsibility for the success and profitability of the segment in the market, end to end. The position manages all segment sales, engineering, grid modelling, project management and service activities undertaken in the market. The segment has identified the market as a key to their success globally and has strong growth aspirations.

The Director is a member of the management team of country and the regional management team of the segment. From a people and culture perspective the Director is responsible to ensure that the local segment team functions as a cohesive, effective and happy team.

The purpose of the position is to grow the market, while consolidating existing business. The Director is responsible for the development and execution of the market specific targets and strategy and ensuring that the segment team are aligned with global strategic goals. In addition, the role is to ensure that the team are operating profitably, safely and in accordance with ESG targets for the wider business. A key focus is to drive continual improvement locally and globally.  

The role focuses on developing SMA’s position as an innovative leader within the market with a focus on customer outcomes. The Director is responsible to develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders at senior levels within the renewable energy industry.

 

2. Accountabilities / Tasks to achieve Goals  

 1.    Lead and support the local segment management team.
2.    Year on year profitable growth and operation of the business, achieving local sales and EBIT targets. 
3.    Drive major contractual negotiations together with Legal and Sales;
4.    Develop a thorough understanding of the customers and the future market needs.
5.    Localisation of global LS strategy and execution aligned to local market needs.
6.    Drive customer focused approach and outcomes
7.    Identify and manage risks and opportunties 
8.    Provide market feedback, competitor intelligence and market data
9.    Lead, coach and develop a team of diverse professionals across utility scale sales, engineering, grid modelling, project management and service.


3. Experience required    

•    10+ years’ experience in energy, preferable renewable, with a developer, IPP, EPC or OEM.
•    Knowledge of the [Country] energy industry.
•    Experience related to large projects in a sales, project management, engineering or service capacity.
•    Experience leading a cross functional, multicultural team.
4. Qualifications Required (both Essential & Desirable)  

•    Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Commerce or others) – essential
•    MBA or similar - desirable


5. Skills required    

1.    Must be highly customer centric and target orientated
2.    Must be an effective communicator 
3.    Must have excellent negotiation skills 
4.    Able to adapt to continuous marketplace changes, bringing a business approach which is flexible and enjoys being an active team player.
5.    Able to break down the strategic goals of the segment for the region/country and pursue these consistently. At the same time, you have the ability to maintain the level of abstraction, to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity, and to work and discuss with your team at different flight levels. In doing so, you always keep the focus on the long-term strategic goal.
6.    Sound technical understanding and the ability to communicate general technical concepts is essential
7.    Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is essential. German and/or other language skills are a plus.
8.    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Salesforce required
9.    The ability to describe and report complex matters in a simplified form

Both domestic and international
